Summary

What if Meg had to become a god?

After Hercules proves he's a true hero and regains his godship, all seems right in the world。 That is, until Zeus tells Meg that she can't be with Hercules because she's, well, mortal。 Luckily, Hera has a solution, offering Meg a chance to prove herself worthy of a spot on Mt。 Olympus--as a god。 All Meg has to do is complete a mysterious quest。

The mission? Oh, just to rescue her ex's current wife from the Underworld。 The ex-boyfriend she saved by selling her soul to Hades。 The ex-boyfriend who immediately moved on to someone else while she was stuck in the Underworld。 Can Meg put her past behind her and use her quick-wit to defeat monsters and gods alike, including the nefarious Hades? Will she finally figure out her place and contribution to the world? Or will her fear of commitment have her running away from an eternity of godhood with Herc?

Written by the author of Mirror, Mirror and Conceal, Don't Feel, Jen Calonita's latest twist is sure to delight and surprise。

I was really excited for this book。。。 which is why I was so disappointed to have to DNF it at around 25%。I won't say much, but this read like a clunky middle grade book。 Everything is oversimplified and overexplained, which meant that we get the most basic tropes in the world, without so much as an effort to make them look somewhat original。 Meg, one of my favourite characters, had absolutely no spark。 She was your basic, somewhat generically strong main character that's kinda just a blank slate I was really excited for this book。。。 which is why I was so disappointed to have to DNF it at around 25%。I won't say much, but this read like a clunky middle grade book。 Everything is oversimplified and overexplained, which meant that we get the most basic tropes in the world, without so much as an effort to make them look somewhat original。 Meg, one of my favourite characters, had absolutely no spark。 She was your basic, somewhat generically strong main character that's kinda just a blank slate。The prose was just so excruciatingly simple I couldn't get invested in a single thing that was happening。 By the time the author decided she was done with characters like Hercules, I decided I was done with this book (around 80ish pages)。This isn't the worst thing I've ever read, and I really do think that younger readers would enjoy it, but there just wasn't anything here for me。 I saw someone else liken it to a Disney sequel, and that about sums it up。 。。。more

While I hoped that this story would be more Hades than anything else it was still rather entertaining to follow Meg and her story and learn about her past, her broken love and why she struggles to trust those around her that love her。 Plus is there anything better than woman overcoming their challenges?! And did I mention that Phil is still in this timeline and Pegasus?! Should have started with them more than anything else! 。。。more

I thought this was a cute continuation of the Meg/Hercules romance。 I know it's marketed as a YA (as is the whole series) but I think MG readers will love it- and there is no reason not to hand it to them。 I thought this was a cute continuation of the Meg/Hercules romance。 I know it's marketed as a YA (as is the whole series) but I think MG readers will love it- and there is no reason not to hand it to them。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 I liked how they depicted the gods closer to how Greek mythology does, especially Zeus。 The only thing I did not like was the jumping around in time going to the past and then back, but that is just a personal opinion it tends to confuse me since there usually isn't any notice this is going to be happening。 But over all the story stayed very true to Meg from the Disney's Hercules and kept her a very strong independent character。 We learn more about how she came to be I really enjoyed this book。 I liked how they depicted the gods closer to how Greek mythology does, especially Zeus。 The only thing I did not like was the jumping around in time going to the past and then back, but that is just a personal opinion it tends to confuse me since there usually isn't any notice this is going to be happening。 But over all the story stayed very true to Meg from the Disney's Hercules and kept her a very strong independent character。 We learn more about how she came to be who she is。 Its a great read that will keep you enthralled threw the whole book。 。。。more

This was a really enjoyable entry into the Twisted Tale series。 Like Unbirthday, it takes place after the original story and doesn't really change the original storyline, but addresses the "What happened next?" question。 This was a really enjoyable entry into the Twisted Tale series。 Like Unbirthday, it takes place after the original story and doesn't really change the original storyline, but addresses the "What happened next?" question。 。。。more

To be honest, for a Disney prequel, this was pretty decent。 However, the writing style wasn't the best, I mean, I didn't like it as much as I expected。 And the plot was far from the real Greek myth, but so was the Disney movie。 As a kid, Hercules was my most favorite Disney film, and Meg was a great character to me。 That's why I've decided to give this book a try。 Surprisingly, I don't regret it。 To be honest, for a Disney prequel, this was pretty decent。 However, the writing style wasn't the best, I mean, I didn't like it as much as I expected。 And the plot was far from the real Greek myth, but so was the Disney movie。 As a kid, Hercules was my most favorite Disney film, and Meg was a great character to me。 That's why I've decided to give this book a try。 Surprisingly, I don't regret it。 。。。more

A wonderful mix of Disney, mythology, and original story telling。。There are a ton of Twisted Tale books at this point。 Go the Distance by Jen Calonita is the first I've read, but it makes me want to read more of them。 The story starts right before the movie ended, with Hercules telling Zeus he wanted to remain on Earth with Meg。 Well in this version Zeus shot that down。 And our story begins。Calonita did a fantastic voice bringing the vibe of the movie characters into this new story but still kep A wonderful mix of Disney, mythology, and original story telling。。There are a ton of Twisted Tale books at this point。 Go the Distance by Jen Calonita is the first I've read, but it makes me want to read more of them。 The story starts right before the movie ended, with Hercules telling Zeus he wanted to remain on Earth with Meg。 Well in this version Zeus shot that down。 And our story begins。Calonita did a fantastic voice bringing the vibe of the movie characters into this new story but still kept them fresh and exciting。 I loved Hercules growing up。 I loved Megara with her zero f's to give way before it was cool。 And Hades is just the funnest of all the Disney Villains。 Combine that with a great story and you have the Elixir of the Gods 。。。more

3。5/5Hercules is my favorite Disney film so I was excited to return to the characters and the world。 I think this is a tough challenge as I have always felt so emotionally satisfied with the real ending and didn't see any reason to update it。 I liked getting to spend more time with Meg and for her to build a real relationship with Pegasus and Phil, who gets more layers added to his character。 There's also a sprinkling of other myths, which continues the mash-up of mythology that Disney started w 3。5/5Hercules is my favorite Disney film so I was excited to return to the characters and the world。 I think this is a tough challenge as I have always felt so emotionally satisfied with the real ending and didn't see any reason to update it。 I liked getting to spend more time with Meg and for her to build a real relationship with Pegasus and Phil, who gets more layers added to his character。 There's also a sprinkling of other myths, which continues the mash-up of mythology that Disney started with their take on the Hercules myth, a much darker story。 On the less positive side, I certainly missed the songs which are part of what makes this movie so amazing (I did notice a little hat tip to the voice of Meg, Susan Egan, in that Meg's last name is revealed to be Egan - adorable!) 。。。more

This is the ending, for the most part, that I wished the Disney movie had--where instead of Hercules giving up immortality, Meg was instead granted the chance to become immortal herself。 Of course this book is a movie-length story all on its own, so I understand why they didn't go this route, but still。 It's satifying after all this time to have my wish granted。Meg is sent on a quest by Hera that at first appears straightforward but eventually leads her to confront the two things in her past tha This is the ending, for the most part, that I wished the Disney movie had--where instead of Hercules giving up immortality, Meg was instead granted the chance to become immortal herself。 Of course this book is a movie-length story all on its own, so I understand why they didn't go this route, but still。 It's satifying after all this time to have my wish granted。Meg is sent on a quest by Hera that at first appears straightforward but eventually leads her to confront the two things in her past that cause her the most pain: memories of her mother, and her ex-boyfriend (the one she sold her soul to save who then betrayed her)。 Meg learned from those experiences not to count on anyone, and she will have to unlearn them in order to fully be a partner to Hercules。This book shows a surprising knowledge of Greek myth, even if it chooses to strategically ignore some aspects of it。 The actual Greek Underworld was a less dismal place than it is in the movie (which has much more in common with Christian concepts of hell) and moreso than it is portrayed here。 But the book still does a better job than the movie with using already existing Greek myths to its advantage to tell the story of Meg's quest to become a true hero herself。The characters for the most part match the way they are in the movie。 The author does an especially good job capturing Danny Devito's stylings as Phil the satyr。 I do think quotes from the movie were used a little too much in place of characterization--just having the characters repeat things they said in the movie, especially stuff that sounds offhand like "I'm a big tough girl, I tie my own sandals and everything," doesn't necessarily equate to it being a catchphrase of theirs。Still, overall despite some smaller nitpicks a satisfying read if you're looking for a story about Meg given the chance to become a god。 。。。more

Really great entry in the Twisted Tales series! Calonita's plot picks up a little after the conclusion of the animated movie。As a mortal, Megara can't join Hercules in Olympus。Hera offers Meg an opportunity, by sending her off on a quest。In the subplot, Calonita incorporates the ancient Greek myth of Hades and Persephone。 Calonita's plot picks up a little after the conclusion of the animated movie。As a mortal, Megara can't join Hercules in Olympus。Hera offers Meg an opportunity, by sending her off on a quest。In the subplot, Calonita incorporates the ancient Greek myth of Hades and Persephone。 。。。more

After a life filled with tragedy, Megara finally gets the chance to prove herself, when Hera sets her on a quest to earn a spot as a goddess of Olympus。 While most of the books in the Twisted Tales series are twists on the original story, Go the Distance is really more of a sequel to the movie Hercules, with Meg in the starring role。 I really love this book。 Meg is strong, smart, compassionate, and brave, all of the qualities a true heroine needs, and she shows it over and over again。 Plus, her After a life filled with tragedy, Megara finally gets the chance to prove herself, when Hera sets her on a quest to earn a spot as a goddess of Olympus。 While most of the books in the Twisted Tales series are twists on the original story, Go the Distance is really more of a sequel to the movie Hercules, with Meg in the starring role。 I really love this book。 Meg is strong, smart, compassionate, and brave, all of the qualities a true heroine needs, and she shows it over and over again。 Plus, her quest is ultimately one of self-discovery, when she learns about her past, her relationships with friends and family, and ultimately her own purpose in life。 。。。more

This book read *way* younger than the other books in the Twisted Tales series。 It was not my favorite of them and I did find myself rolling my eyes at the immature writing style and dialogue, but overall, the plot was good and I enjoyed the Greek mythology aspects。 The character development arc was good, even if the whole thing about needing to get over seeing love and help as a weakness is sort of overused and cringey。 Half of the time, I felt like I was watching a "Sofia the First" episode or This book read *way* younger than the other books in the Twisted Tales series。 It was not my favorite of them and I did find myself rolling my eyes at the immature writing style and dialogue, but overall, the plot was good and I enjoyed the Greek mythology aspects。 The character development arc was good, even if the whole thing about needing to get over seeing love and help as a weakness is sort of overused and cringey。 Half of the time, I felt like I was watching a "Sofia the First" episode or something and at one point, I was like, "aaand this is where they would sing a song to boost Meg's morale and make her realize her mistakes。" I really, really wished that Hercules had been in it more—and that Meg would quit calling him "Wonder Boy"—and less of Phil, but it was alright。 I loved how we got to see more of Meg's past and how she came to be who she was in the movie。 I do think the whole Aegeus thing was resolved too quickly。 This was someone Meg had been harboring hatred for for *years。* SPOILER: I like how she saw it wasn't his fault, that time moved differently in the Underworld, but in the scene where it was revealed, Meg went from hating him to suddenly feeling so sorry and being totally cool with him and Katerina。 Which, I mean, good for Meg, but the transitions of emotions and stuff weren't stellar in this book。 Like I said earlier, I wish Hercules had been in it a little more so we could see more development of Meg and his relationship, but that didn't happen much。 We did get a few flashback scenes, though。 I also felt the book didn't stick very true to the time period。 I would read a sentence of dialogue and roll my eyes because there is absolutely NO WAY anyone would talk like that in Ancient Greece, or even in modern day! I thought more details could have been added to give us more of that Ancient Greece feel, but sadly, there weren't。 I wish this one had been a little darker like some of the other Twisted Tales, but it was a quick read and mostly enjoyable。 Going into the Twisted Tale books, I know I'm not going to be reading some amazing piece of literature, but I expect to be entertained。 I'd say I was sufficiently entertained by "Go the Distance。" 。。。more
